Communications Commission Minutes

April 6, 2006

Elected Council Members:  Dick Martin and Debbie Fish
Commission Members:
Dave Adams, Jeanne Brzycki, Ray Fontaine, Steve Forrest and Martha Lofland, Anna Donovan (Scribe)

1)  Reviewed all May activities which included checking every date regarding First Communion rehearsals (group 1, 2 and 3), Reconciliation and the reception of First Communion on May 20 and 21.  Also, on May 13 at the 4:00pm Mass Bishop McDonnell will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation.

2) Posters:  Ray noted all the posters which will be needed for this very busy month.  Ray also wanted everyone to know that Therese Laporte has volunteered her artistic talent to do paintings of special Holy Days and important events of the parish.  It was decided that perhaps she should start with the Feast of St. Francis (in October) to give her enough lead time.  Where to store these paintings will be determined later.  Ray to invite Therese to our May meeting.

3) Welcome Packets:  Martha reported that she is running out of the Time and Talent brochure.  Anna to check her computer disk regarding the T&T and see if many updates need to be made.

4) Parish Council Nomination and Election Process:  All the terms and expiration dates of the present members were re-checked.  Jeanne to update Info Sheet, Martha to copy and Dave and Ray will stuff into bulletins.  The nomination ballot will be distributed to parishioners the weekend of April 22 and 23.  Jeanne will type up the ballot and Martha will make the copies.  The following members will be responsible to hand out the ballots: 4:00 pm - Anna;  8:00 am - Ray;  10:30 am - Debbie and Dick

5) Book Group:  At the Tuesday Pastoral Council meeting, Steve Forrest, Debbie Fish and Anne Werbicki volunteered to have a meeting and discuss the possibility of starting a St. Francis Book Group.  More information will be forthcoming.

6) New tri-fold Communications Board:  This new informational bulletin board is a great asset in helping to keep our parish community abreast of all the important events happening at the parish level and beyond.  It was felt, however, that some guidelines needed to be established to better facilitate its use.

Herewith the proposed Guidelines for using the Communication Board:

1. The members of the Communications Commission are solely responsible for what is posted on the board.
2.  There will be a plastic file folder on the back of the board for people to put their news items.  (We will need to request a contact name and telephone number on each item in case there are any questions).
3.  Priority of posting items will be as follows:  a) Parish Commissions and Committees;   b) Diocesan notices; c) other related Catholic activities (if room allows); d) notices will be posted for up to four weeks (discretionary).

Next meeting:  Thursday, May 4, 2006, 7:30pm at Dick Martin's house.
